It’s 7 a.m. on Saturday morning and 10 girls are arriving from all corners of Portland to begin their weekend program with Betties360. We’re heading to Smith Rock for two days of rock climbing, confidence building, and friendship. The girls are tentatively walking toward the 15-passenger van, touching up make-up, eyeing the other girls, and clutching overstuffed backpacks. They have no idea what to expect. The excitement is palpable, though, and the mentors, volunteers, and instructors, who have been busily preparing for this trip to Smith, can’t wait to show them what’s in store.
